What is My Lil Boo?
My Lil Boo is a responsive website that helps new parents gain confidence in raising their babies through tracking habits and providing help on health related topics.
When a new baby is born there are so many new difficulties that parents will need to overcome in order to keep their baby safe. If they don't have help to guide them through this it can cause stress or have serious consequences if the baby's needs are not met. My Lil Boo is there to help with that.

Research

Competitor Analysis:
I viewed four competitors: Baby Center, Huckleberry, Le Baby, and Sprout
Weaknesses:
Included only trackers and no insights or guides, and vice versa
Missed opportunities when it came to using cute colors
Strengths:
The use of guides, the
Simplistic layouts
Use of trackers, and option to customize
Description of current month milestones
Analysis of the habits
Option to add multiple babies

Research
Interviews:
I interviewed parents of babies 12 months or younger. What I learned was that parents main concern is for their child's health and safety. This included everything from getting sick, allergies, and not developing at the right rate. It is very important that they have doctors that they trust, and to know when they should reach out to their doctors.

The main concern were their baby's health:

The main concerns, goals, and motivations were similar between all of the interviewees that everything fit neatly into one persona.
The fact that health of their baby was center of attention for new parents helped me to narrow down My Lil Boo's focus.
The interviews and the making of the persona helped me to realize I needed to focus on health related features, it was time to figure out what other features to include.
When prioritizing features I chose to include:
Guides and articles
Health and habit trackers, with the option to customize
An analysis of the habits and health
A chart to measure growth
A description of the current milestone
Ability to add a profile picture of baby

What are My Lil Boo's brand values?

Inviting and Friendly:
It made sense for My Lil Boo to have an inviting and friendly feel. This would be shown in the font, as the font I chose has a bit of a fun personality.
This would mainly be represented by the color palette. I chose colors that have a friendly feel to them.
For the girl version the primary color is pink, as it is usually associated with baby girls. The boy's version would be a blue-green. The secondary color for the girl version would be the blue green that was primary for the boy version. Vice versa for the boy version. The text fields would be white for both versions.
This provides consistency across the versions, and would add to the recognition of my brand.

Family Focused:
One of the most important brand values, and the original reason I chose to do this project, would be that My Lil Boo would be family focused. This website helps couples raise new babies, and create a family of their own.
The logo would represent this brand values, as it would include a mom with her baby.

Education, focus on Health:
The main feature of this website is to help new parents navigate health related issues and questions they may have. We do this by providing them with guides, articles, messages on when to call their doctor, and a way to find a pediatrician near them. Later on I would add screens for the baby's vital signs so you can make sure your baby is as healthy as they can be.

Reliability:
We want new parents to trust us, especially as health is a very serious issue.
The font, Quicksand, would represent this, as it would be a more simple and legible font. This font ended up being very similar to another reliable baby tracker.

Design
Next I designed the layouts:
Now that I knew what features to include, I could start sketching out the layout of My Lil Boo.
For the low fidelity I sketched it out on paper, the sketches are shown in the slideshow. This ended up being one of my favorite parts of the design process, I loved being able to start putting my ideas down.
I turned my lo-fi sketches into mid fidelity, using Figma. I kept the layout very similar, but ended up tweaking it a bit here and there.

Testing
I tested three main task flows:
I conducted the user testing with an unmoderated testing tool called Maze.
The Sign Up Flow where users sign up for My Lil Boo and end at the homepage
The Pediatrician finder, where users would find and save a doctor.
The Fever flow, users would use the temperature tracker
Users could also explore the whole responsive website, and provide additional feedback.

I made three big changes:
The first change I made was reducing the height for the sign up and log in screens, to reduce scrolling and confusion on where to click next.
I also added the option to add more than one baby.

The second change I made was increasing the size of the hamburger menu and increasing the size of the buttons on it so that it was easier to click the buttons. It also made the hamburger menu look less crowded.

I ended up adding screens for baby's vital signs, so that the website would have a great focus on health.
Conclusion
My biggest takeaways with this project:
Overall I really enjoyed this project. I learned a lot about the entire process of making a responsive website. I like that I was able to make a project with a purpose that is important to me. It was really neat watching everything come together.
Every step helped to make the responsive website what it is now. Even when I thought I knew how things would go, each step helped me to see things with a new focus. I ended up changing my preconceived notions and coming up with new ideas. For example, the user interviews helped me focus in health more than I was intending to before them. I was thinking of making a more generalized baby tracker website, but the user interviews helped me to make my website more unique. Such as with the worry meter, and finding a pediatrician feature, messages about when to call a doctor, to charts with baby’s vital sign, and more.
